Beginning last April, indigenous community leaders from the Philippines started a historical tour around the United States called Lakbay Lumad USA, or Lumad Journey USA. This speaking tour aims to bring light to the struggles of indigenous people in Mindanao – collectively known as Lumad – against militarization, forced migration, and plunder. The tour is the highlight of the “Stop Lumad Killings. Save Our Schools. Protect Indigenous Life” campaign of the ICHRP-US Network, which seeks to educate the American public on the importance of struggling alongside the Lumad people in their journey for peace with justice.
Having toured Washington DC, the Midwest, and West Coast, these leaders will conclude their tour in the New York and New Jersey area from May 17 to 24. Please join us and the Lumad for the following events as part of Lakbay Lumad USA: The Continuing Journey of Mindanao’s Indigenous Peoples for Peace with Justice.
